Stickhorse Rodeo

Ahhh, the Sitckhorse Rodeo... a 1st grade tradition. :)
Last week we made stickhorses at school. :)
This week they got to take a field trip to the Rodeo grounds. First, they watched a little exhibition. And then they got to join in on the fun! Barrel racing.
 Line dancing!
 Fun with Ella!
 "Bull" riding!
Then Emma's favorite part (no, we really asked what her favorite part was and she said "LUNCH!" LOL!)
At that point, I traded with mom and she sent me these pictures...
Roping!! Aiden got in on the fun. :)
And after they got to "milk" "cows" they got the get their picture with Ronald McDonald!!
It was a fun time that we have waited ALL year for!!

BUGS!!

We have been up to our thoraxes (thoraxi?) in insects lately. Aiden's ants arrived in the mail! YAY! These things were everywhere! We had to put the test tube they arrived in into the refrigerator so they would be calm when we transferred. But then they woke up and ESCAPED! I think we have it under control now, but I had 3 rogue ants that were lost.
This crazy looking guy showed up on our back door last weekend.
 Then he did this...
And now it looks like this. It has been 10 days. I hope we get to see the butterfly!! Emma said " Mom, its probably dead." Full of sunshine, that girl. ;)
And last but not least, Emma's ladybug larve! This has been really interesting. I had no idea they looked like that at first. :)
It has been a great learning experience!!

Bubba the Cowboy Prince

Emma had her 1st grade performance this week. She was one of the cutest cows that I have ever seen!! She vetoed the udders, but still very cute. ;)

Emma and her teacher, Mrs. B. She has LOVED being in her class this year. I have too! What a great group of teachers - so fun and creative!! It has been a great year.
Emma and Mrs. P. Love her too!!
 The cows!! MOOOO!
 Emma with her flowers.
 Emma and her "fan club".
First, Chas!!
 Nanny!!
 Daddy!!
 Emma and Ella.
 Granny Bev and Grandpa!!
 And Nana!!
Aiden was pretty proud of her.
We finished up our Western night with dinner at Buck Nekkid BBQ. Yee Haw!!

Some spring hobbies...

Baseball! Aiden is loving it. Here he played a team with 3 of his good buddies on it. He is giving Leo (hat backwards) 5 here.

Definitely "Baseball Ready" here!!

Bike riding! They have both done amazing after taking off the training wheels about 3 weeks ago. They never looked back and both just keep getting better and better! And I don't think you can see it in the picture, but Aiden spent his own money on a kickstand and BOY oh boy was he ever proud of that thing! Best $8 he ever spent, that's for sure!!
And have I mentioned that the kiddos like infomercials. Yeah, the slushy magic and a gyro bowl (which did I also mention that Aiden fully accepts the challenge of disproving it's spill-proof-ness EVERY SINGLE darn time he uses it!! And for the record, no it is NOT spill proof.)
Science experiments!! They decided to use their new goggles when making their volcano. "Safety First"!! Daddy would be so proud! Hahaha!! ;)
We have been able to slow down ever so slightly and really have found some Joy in the Journey. For that, I am thankful!! :)

Easter 2012

Our little tradition of dying eggs at home. And just for the record, we must watch WAY too much Barbie. Aiden told Matt that his egg was "Stunning!" ;) LOL, so hard!!!
Posing with their (stunning) finished eggs. :)
Easter morning!! They were not sure what was going to be in their baskets since they didn't go visit with the EB at the mall. Pretty much the usual... A little candy, an outfit, some goggles, some baseball stuff for Aiden and some AG accessories for Emma. The EB doesn't really go all out like Santa. ;) Probably because he gets screwed and got left carrots and water instead of cookies and hot chocolate like Santa.  Ha!
Hunting...

We had probably the WORST fight ever that morning about going to church. And it was all over Aiden's pants. Nice. Looking back, it probably wasn't as important as I made it, but then I was stuck in a him (Aiden) vs. me situation and had to stick to my guns. Curse you CONSISTENCY!! So then I went to church again with Mom after our service. I got to hear "Jesus Christ is Risen Today" and pray for forgiveness about screaming at Aiden all morning about pants AND be with my mom! So that was win-win-win. ;)
More hunting at Aunt Lynn's house at lunch. There were eggs EVERYWHERE! Loving my lady like little girl. ;)
And then MORE hunting at Uncle Richards. I can't tell you how many times we have hunted eggs at Aunt Mary and Richards, but it goes WAY back on our list of Karnes family traditions. Lots and lots of cousins have lined up at that very spot!! I'm so thankful we got to do it this year too! Great memories. :)
Aunt Trudy and Emma going through her eggs.
E, A and Katie Beth with Chloe's bunnies.
Emma with Slippers. :)
It was a great Easter. Thank you Jesus for RISING from the grave!!!
After that 3rd Easter for the day, we had another dinner at our Aunt Christy and Uncle Terry's house. It was very yummy!! And finally, we finished off the day with our 18th annual (competitive) hunt (my first 15 hunts were by myself and decidedly less cut-throat)  at Mom's house. We have always done it first thing so it was a little different hunting in the dark, but we HAD to do it and couldn't miss it!! You don't know competition until you see Matt and I at our Easter Egg hunt! Mom had to start hiding BIG eggs for Emma and Aiden so we didn't run them down looking for our's. I am very proud to say that even though mom really stepped it up a notch this year, I found BOTH the golden and silver eggs and while Matt found a few more than I did, I completely brought home top honors with those and also winning the most money. I had to dig in composting fruit and bird seed to find those things!! #WINNING
I love it that she still does that for us. Side Note: And did I mention that I must have stepped on a crack some where along the way, because she did all of that with a broken back!! She has a compression fracture from a car wreck she had about a week before that. She is doing much better now though!!

BFF Easter Egg Hunt

For the last 3 years, we have been attending Ella and Rylan's church's Easter Egg Hunt and pancake breakfast. They have a great church and we always feel very welcome there!
Here they go! It is the last year for Aiden and Rylan in the "little kid area". They cleaned up!!

The group this year...
And the group in 2010. They are so grown up!!
Aiden was SO very excited that he found a coveted golden egg and got a goody basket!!
Phey! PTL!! I was never so glad to see this girl running back with a golden egg! Aiden and Rylan found them in their section, but both girls came up empty the first time out, but when we went back in the church and saw 4 unclaimed Golden Egg goody baskets we bolted back outside to see if we could find the. Ella found one first and thank the Lord, the girl that hid them found one when Emma happened to be right by her! Phew!!!
When we were leaving, they had some visitors that they wanted to chase. :)
It was a great Saturday before Easter tradition. :)
