Enjoy, Grandparents

Nana, get ready to wear this out!!

Apparently we originally recorded this to show Grandma and Grandpa what the kids were up to, but oh, mom (nana)! Oh, how you will LOVE this!! And Grandma and Grandpa, I am sure we never got this to you because it is so long. I'm sure it was impossible to email, so you enjoy, too!!! Plus it is a little bit of an oldie so it is just that much more cute!! Nana, don't show Andy though!! He will have her in Spanish lessons for sure! Ha! I think she goes from "ocho" to "cinco".

Show us your life - Favorite Dessert

One of our family's favorite desserts is the Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball. My sister in law found the recipe and we pretty much have it at every party. It is pure deliciousness. I couldn't find a picture where it wasn't already demolished so I swiped this off of Taste of Home's website.
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup finely chopped pecans
Graham crackers

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter and vanilla until fluffy. Gradually add sugars; beat just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Place cream cheese mixture on a large piece of plastic wrap; shape into a ball. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Just before serving, roll cheese ball in pecans. Serve with graham crackers.

Old Fashioned Go Hogs!!

I was going through some of mom's photo albums and well, they were just so darn cute I am putting some of them on here!

Me and mom.
Game day!! On the steps of the library, in front of the student union.

We teach 'em young to call those hogs!!
UPDATE: Emma just asked me why the hog was naked!! LOL! Let's just all be thankful that the UA decided to clothe poor Big Red and give him some friends! And let's hope that Emma wasn't scarred for life by seeing her mom be held by a big naked hog!!
Look at the south end zone!! It looks like a high school football field! I am soooo old! And that score board... It makes me so thankful for the Jumbo Tron. Ha!

Lots more oldies pictures... so stay tuned!!

Getting Ready for Bikes Blues and BBQ

Apparently, I haven't taken any pictures at BBBQ the last few years. But this is a cutie from a few (4!!!) years ago!! But, nonetheless, we have been gearing up for it again at our house.
The best thing about the parade was that we got to sit at Rick's Bakery to watch it! I think that we have missed it the last few years.

Here's the year before we had Emma. I played the pregnancy card and got to stay home! :)
Nanny and Papa in the parade. Silly Nanny!
And this isn't a motorcycle picture, but I just ran across it while I was looking back through old pictures and I love it. That face!! And even her little fingernails are painted. So Emma!

Not sure when we are going to make it down to Dickson this weekend because we have some football to watch!! GO HOGS!! BEAT BAMA!!

More pictures from the weekend...

1-2-3-Gooooo, LEMON DROPS!! Did I ever mention that I LOVE when they do this! It is so cute.
Emma had soccer pictures BRIGHT and EARLY on Saturday, followed by a game. ALL of the A Team more aggressive girls were either sick or out of town so the B Team younger, less aggressive girls really got to show their stuff. I mean we still got CREAMED, but the little girls really did a good job of getting in there and doing a great job! We even got the ball down almost by our goal twice!!!

Look at her running in the middle of the team!! As opposed to 10 feet behind them!! :) She really is improving so much this year. The part that she doesn't want to do is take it away from the other girls, and while I know that is the whole point of soccer, I think that is so sweet! I'm sure it is strange for her to live the last 4 1/2 years with us making her always share with Aiden or with other kids and now here we are yelling at them all to "GET IT, TAKE IT AWAY!!!"
And here's what you get when Daddy is fishing instead of going to the game!! ;) Sorry, Matt!! He LOVED the pom poms! Go Lemon Drops!!

Weekend Recap

We had a pretty busy weekend, as usual. We had some friends in from Georgia for the big game. They were such good sports and didn't rub it in AT ALL! AhemYeahRight!!! No really it was all in good fun! We would have totally rubbed it in their faces had there not been 700 penalties in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and if our defense would have kept up the momentum they had the first quarter. :( But it was fun. Matt and Todd fished on Friday and Saturday and were oh so close to being "in the money". Next year guys! Then Glenda and the kids and I went to Eureka in the mist. Us naturally curly headed girls did not like the misty weather, hence no pictures of that little outing. But we survived (barely!! Next time I need a gps! Maybe "American Jill" knows her way around Eureka better than me.)
I had to get a picture of this little cutie in the most coveted of all our bath towels. The doggie towel has gotten them out of the bath tub quickly many a time by simply by saying "whoever gets out first gets the doggie towel!" Thanks Aunt Kellie!! I wish we had 10 of them!!

And here is our "trotty" boy.

A: eeeeyaaa, eeeeyaaa
me: Are you being a donkey, buddy
A: no mommy, I doing Tumblebus...or what dat hang I do at tool?
me: Karate?
A: yeah, trotty.

After last week's fiasco of me trying to spy on him and him seeing me first, I wised up this week and sent a teacher in with my camera! Miss Alisha said that he looked at her like she was crazy!

I have more pictures of the weekend that I wanted to post, but I will have to get to it a little later!

Show Us Your Life - Dinner Recipes

Kelly's Korner is hosting a blog hop of "go to" recipes this week and here are some that we LOVE!!

Cheese Soup
Oh, yum... this just makes me excited for fall!!
1 C.  chopped onion
4 C. water
4 bouillon cubes
1 C. chopped celery
1 C. diced carrots
2 1/2 C. diced potatoes
1 lb. Velveeta
2 cans cream of chicken soup

Boil water, bouillon, onions and celery until tender. Add carrots and potatoes and cook until tender. Add more water if necessary and cook for 10-15 more minutes. Add cream of chicken soup and Velveeta. Stir often to prevent scorching.

Potato Casserole
This is the one that we take to most pot lucks or family gatherings that we have. We have it at home a lot too!
1 bag hash brown potatoes (I think it says country style - the square ones)
1/2 stick margarine
8 oz. tub sour cream
1 can cream of chicken soup
salt and pepper to taste (I usually throw in some onion powder too)

I put all that in a big bowl and microwave it for a few minutes. Then I stir in about 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and toss in the microwave for another few minutes. Then I pour all of that into a 9x13 casserole dish.

Then I melt the other half of the stick of margarine and pour that onto about 2 cups of corn flakes, stir it all up and spread that evenly on top of the potato mixture. (My kids and I LOVE the corn flakes on the top, so we usually add more than that). Then bake it at 350* for about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your oven.

Hope you enjoy!! I can't wait to read everyone else's tasty recipes!!

"Liverty" and Justice for all

Proud Momma Alert... Emma just busted this out and I couldn't believe it! I have been trying to get her to say it for a couple of years now and now she knows it after just a week of pre-k!!

Girly Drama!! Already??

Oh... this morning just broke my heart!! Emma cried for about 30 minutes straight saying that she did not want to go to school. Now this in itself was not too unexpected. She has never gone full time and I had expected her to get burned out at this point. BUT she proceeded to tell me that if she went, she HAD to wear two short sleeved shirts because she didn't want one of her friends (who shall remain nameless) to be upset with her. She was willing to compromise if she could wear a swimsuit under her clothes (??). Um, no. Now don't get me wrong. We have worn our share of "creative" outfits, in fact I am pretty sure that this article HAD to be written by one of her former teachers, as there were more than a one (ok more than 7) that applied to us. Yes, she has worn plastic high heels (we took extra "real" shoes, of course). She once wore a spiderman pajama top over her snow white dress, and there were many times that she graced the doors of the ol' academy in her lovely Alice in Wonderland dress that Nana made (which kind of looked like a regular dress, you know, if we were Amish). What is a mom to do?? Poor baby girl. I just wanted to hug her and let her wear the two silly shirts! But part of me really wanted to stand up to the peer pressure and the silliness of it all. (I know mom, I am thinking of the white flats that I snuck in my backpack so I could wear them with my zippered leg Guess Jeans, darn peer pressure). We finally (an hour later), compromised on a shirt that was layered AND it had glittery writing. But that put us being late AGAIN!! I hate that!!

On the bright side, Aiden went into his class for the FIRST TIME EVER without crying!! YAY!!! That is a HUGE answered prayer!! He was just so big and walked right in!! WOOO HOOO!!

Hopefully, the day will be better from here on out... Have a great one!!

Haircuts and Trotty

This weekend we just had more of the usual. Saturday we had soccer bright and early. Emma wasn't so sure she wanted to participate, but she finally went out and had some fun.

Go Lemon Drops!!

Then Sunday the inevitable finally happened... Emma cut her own hair. I have really tried so hard to never tell her that I did it when I was a kid or to even cut her hair myself just so she would never get the idea that it was even possible to think that someone besides a hair stylist could cut hair. But she's a smart one, that girl. We tried to get an emergency haircut on Sunday afternoon, but we weren't able too and so far if we part it on the side, it hasn't been too noticeable. Really, I'm not kidding. I mean it looks like a huge chunk is missing on this picture and it is if you look for it, but no one has just come out and said "WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR!!!???" I mean, except Matt right when it happened. I can't say anything though, because it was just a few short years ago (or 27) that I sat under Nana and Grandaddy's kitchen table and did it myself :) Hey, it'll grow out!
Guess who told on her. Actually, guess who came in the kitchen with "the scissors" and a piece of his own hair that she cut too (although, we can't tell where it came from - no obvious chunks missing anywhere).
Yep, Super Aiden. And speaking of this Super Cutie, guess who started "trotty" (aka Karate) this week!!! They are offering it at daycare and since he is having MAJOR clinginess issues, we thought that he might actually participate if I wasn't there. (Actually, I was there, but I was trying to hide so he wouldn't see me, but that boy is a smart one too and before I got a picture of him he saw me and then wouldn't participate anymore. :( Next time I'll just send my camera in with a teacher).

After that, the kids had a dentist appointment. Emma did fabulous and Aiden, notsomuch. We got in trouble again for taking a sippy to bed because we (and by "we" I guess I mean "I") fill it with poison (aka orange juice) and to think that I thought I would be praised because I had gotten it all the way to over half water mixed with just a tiny bit of poison (aka orange juice). Nope, I just had to sign a form that I would never give them orange juice at bed time EVER. AGAIN. I am so not kidding. And by the way, had I had a cavity in the last year? (Technically, it was a food trap, get off my back people!!) So we left there humbled and depressed (and by we, I mean I again).

So there you have it...  Have a great week!!! Go HOGS, beat GEORGIA!!

Labor Day and Pre-K

For Labor Day, we made our annual trip with mom to the Clothesline (aka Clothes On) Fair. And Emma insisted that we first go to Denny's (her new FAVORITE place to eat!)

Dad, just one question... ya think I can fed ex saw blades!! (wink, wink!!!) ;)

Then Matt barbequed and it was delicious!!
Then We made a quick trip to a local lake. It was kind of yucky, but the kids had a blast!

Later that night we started the pre-k preparations...
The Pre-K Pedicure

The FIRST day of Pre-K!!!

And I didn't even cry!!!
